Minimum Hardware Requirements

Note: The recommended amount of RAM is 4 GB or more. You can have a maximum of 32 GB RAM on 64-bit servers.

Minimum Hard Disk Space Requirements for Each Module

Note: At least 6 GB of free hard drive space is required to install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard Processor License Edition.

Minimum Software Requirements

You must have the software listed below installed on the server where Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard Processor License Edition will be running:

• Internet Explorer 6 or a more recent version is needed for Microsoft Management Console (MMC), SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT), the Report Designer component of Reporting Services, and HTML Help.
• Microsoft Windows Installer 4.5 or a later version.
• You must have .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 if you are installing Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard Processor License Edition on a server with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (64-bit) IA64.

These required software components are installed by SQL Server Setup:

• .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
• SQL Server Native Client
• SQL Server Setup support files

Note:The operating system must be restarted when .NET Framework is being installed. If your Windows Installer installation also needs to restart, SQL Server Setup will wait until Windows Installer and .NET Framework components are installed before it restarts.
